DELPHINE MAYA RICHARDS
Age: Sixteen
Year: Sixth
What was your initial reaction to Hogwarts? Were you happy with the house you got put in?
Honestly? The first thought I had when I saw Hogwarts was probably a word my parents would be ashamed I knew at such a young age. No, really, when I got here it was amazing. Everyone was so nice and it was just such an awesome atmosphere. It was nice how on the train you got to know some people too, so when you got here you weren't completely alone in your new surroundings because I know that can be a lot for some people. I did find that I somehow managed to sit in the carriage with people who knew nothing about muggles, wow it still feels weird saying that word, and since I'm muggle born I didn't have a whole lot in common with them. The entire train ride was like one big awkward silence. Then, during the sorting hat ceremony I had no idea what he was going on about. Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, I had no sweet clue what was happening. It was so incredibly awkward. It was good though, I got put into Gryffindor and I sat beside a girl who explained everything to me. Which was nice, because I was oh so very confused.
So, it sounds like you had a tough little while at first. What was it like growing up in the muggle world and not knowing anything about our world? Did your parents accept it?
Well, it wasn't that hard. I adapt pretty easily. Anyways, yeah my parents weren't all that thrilled at first. They were extremely confused. When they finally got to come help me pick out my school supplies though, they had a ball. It was all so cool to them. Me too obviously, but they were just so flabbergasted. I'm adopted, so I assume my real parents were wizards but I'm not 100% sure. My mom, Diane, and my dad, George, just had such a fun time immersing themselves into my new life and encouraging me to have a good time.
Now, you don't have to answer this, but when did you find out you were adopted?
Well, my parents were always totally open with me about it. It was a closed adoption so I really have no clue what happened to my biological parents. I mean, my parents told me that my mom was a single parent and just couldn't afford to keep me or something along the lines. Think my real dad was a bit of a drinker, if ya know what I mean. Anyways, yeah, I don't know anything about them but I'm sure they are very nice people and had a good reason for giving me up! I must say, I definitely love the life I've had and I wouldn't change it.
Have you had a good time at Hogwarts? Made a lot of friends?
Oh yeah! I've had such a fun time here. Me and my pet owl, Janice, just had a great experience from the moment we got here. The girl I mentioned earlier who explained stuff to me, we became really good friends and now she's my absolute best friend. I don't know what I'd do without her. She's kind of a brainiac at times, which can totally be a buzz kill, but ya gotta love her. Other than her, I've made some really awesome friendships and I wouldn't trade them for the world. Everyone here is just friendly! Even a few SLytherins if you give them the chance. But, don't tell them I told you that.
While you were here, did you discover a lot about yourself?
Since I've been at hogwarts I've come to understand a lot of things about myself, yes. For one, I found out that I'm pretty good at divination. The word Seer has even been thrown around multiple times. Honestly, I just think I get lucky. It would be something though if I was a seer, huh? Didn't even know she was a wizard and then all of a sudden she also has a special power? That would be funny. No, I'm just really good at reading things: tea leaves, crystal balls, tarot cards, you name it. It's definitely my favorite class and I don't know what I would do if they hadn't offered it. Who knows, maybe someday I'll go back to the muggle world and start up a palm reading shop! Just kidding, that would be rather lame. Other than that, I've grown a lot during my time here. Throughout my time here it has come to my attention that I'm a nice person. That might sound really odd or like I'm bragging, but I promise you that I'm not. I just really take pleasure out of helping people. I don't understand how some people can be so rude either. I mean, I get it sometimes you have a bad day; but, some people, are just plain mean.
Ok, going to wrap this up in a second. If you could change one thing in your life what would it be?
Oh! Well that's a relatively easy one. I'd find the love of my life and make him stay with me forever! Again, I joke. Seriously, I'd change the fact that I barely get to see my parents. They were such a huge part of my life growing up and now that I can't see them very often it sucks! I don't have siblings or anything so they're all I have, and it's kind of lonely not being around them for most of the year!
So, you're a big family girl. That's good! Anyways, we better get running. It was awesome chatting with you, Delphine, good luck in your future endeavors! Maybe someday we'll see your name in lights as a seer!
Oh yeah, definitely! It was awesome talking to you! Have an awesome day, hopefully I'll see you again soon.
