Getting school supplies was a drag. Really, Lily thought it was completely boring and unnecessary. Her parents could have just as easily picked up her things as she could have. But since they were making her come along, she decided there was at least one place that she could have a little fun. One of her uncles had recently died, but the other one owned a joke shop. She was in need of a pick-me-up, so that's where she decided to head. Well, she decided to go after she'd made her way to the book store. She got the required texts and handed them off to her mother before telling her she'd meet up with them in about an hour because she wanted to go to Uncle George's shop. She figured there wasn't really a way her parents could tell her no even if they wanted to. She didn't get to come over to the joke store often and after all, George was her mother's brother. What kind of trouble could Lily possibly get into at a joke shop?
Okay, probably a lot of trouble. It was Lily, how could she not get into trouble? She didn't know how the Hogwarts staff had seen fit to give her prefect status in her fifth year, but they had and the shiny little badge was attached to her robes that she would wear again this year, only because she didn't see the point in getting new ones. She had learned over the years that her mother's side of the family hadn't always been financially well off, but Lily's father was Harry Potter. Not to mention the fact that Ginny Weasley was a Quidditch player. They got by quite well.
Once she was inside Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, her bright red hair didn't stick out quite so much. It was very bright in the store. Her eyes wandered around the room, looking for her uncle, but she wasn't able to find him. Maybe he wasn't at work today. The death of Uncle Ron had probably gotten him really down. He was already short a twin, and now he'd lost a younger brother. She could understand if he didn't want to be at his job.
She stopped in front of some exploding wands. They were older jokes, but still pretty funny. The ones in this store were the most realistic ones that Lily had ever seen. She wondered how long it had taken them to get the wands just right. She could cause a lot of chaos if she could get someone to put a spell on one to make it look like someone elses wand. She was decent in school, but not really brilliant. So she would probably have to ask a Ravenclaw. Probably not the best buy right now. She continued to look at the shelves and stopped again in front of some sort of book. The label said it would explode at a time that you set it to, like a bomb, she supposed. But the label said it was perfectly harmless. What George meant by harmless and what was really harmless were probably two different things, but she was intrigued anyway. Lily let her mind wander with all of the things that she could do with such an item.

It wasn't often that Ezio found himself in the Weasley owned joke shop, but he'd been wanting to get something special for his darling Amelia. He had heard last year from several students this place had these fuzzy bright colored balls of fur that were pets, and since Ezio knew Amelia loved any sort of living creature he had decided to investigate as soon as possible.
For those that didn't know Ezio well, they most likely thought Amelia was his girlfriend or something. Those who knew him knew she was his cousin but might as well have been his sister by how he loved her, treated her, and talked about her. There wasn't a thing in the world Ezio wouldn't do for her. Ever since she had come into the family, Ezio has been scared that his father would turn his abusive ways on her, but so far they had been lucky, at least that's how it was in Ezio's mind. Lucky that his father had kept his attention on his second born son.
The young Italian picked up a bright purple ball of fluff only to have it bite him with small sharp teeth. He dropped it back, glaring at it.
"No one told me you bit. You are suppose to be fluffy and cute. Maybe they don't sell those anymore and now they only have ones that bite." He was speaking to himself but a tad loudly. He of course was still in the more harmful joke section of the ship instead of the more girly section, but he didn't know that.

Someone was talking rather loudly. It drew Lily out of her debate. She grabbed the book and put it in her cauldron so she could buy it. She doubted they would actually charge her for it. There had been some incident that had led to her father helping her Uncles (though now one was no longer alive) get the shop going, so she sometimes got special treatment. But she always paid for it anyway. She might have been rebellious, but she still had a bit of a conscience. She hurried over to where the noise was coming from, curiosity driving her, until she came up next to a boy she recognized, even if she didn't have a ton of contact with him.
“Most animals do bite.” She said with a smile. “I mean, unless you train them otherwise. My mum had a pygmy puff when she was my age.” Technically, the little pets had been illegal when her uncles had started making them. At least that's what she had come to learn. Until they had acquired a license to breed different species together. But they had always been a good seller. “She said it grew really attached to her, so they make good pets if that's what you're looking for.” Lily picked up a bright pink one and used her index finger to pet it. She had asked for one last year, but she already had her cat and she used the family owl a lot.
She set the small animal back down and turned to the man. “Ezio, right? We're in the same year.” Although she didn't think they had ever hung out a whole lot in their previous years, she was sure they were bound to have at least a few mutual friends.

Ezio whirled around not expecting a female voice to offer him help. He had assumed he’d run into George, but not...was that the youngest Potter girl? Lilly? He rubbed the back of his head, pulling his dark grey jacket open a bit as he did so. He flashed a slightly sheepish smile.
”Yeah I guess. Just never heard of these guys doing that. Maybe they like girls better.” He was about to introduce himself when she kept right on talking. Ezio closed his mouth and smiled slightly as he listened. ”Well it is for my little cousin. Her name is Amelia,” he said with a slight chuckle. He reached out and gently picked up a bright blue one, holding it close to his chest and stroked it with one finger like Lilly had. He smiled at he felt it relax in his hand, thinking of how much Amelia would love it. He suddenly came back out of his day dream when Lilly spoke again.
”I...yes I am. Ezio Leonardo Valderes D’orolione. Sorry. I know it’s a mouthful.” It seemed a bit much, his full name, for a such an informal meeting. It was times like these he wished he could feel more comfortable without retreating into a more formal way of speaking. ”But you are Lilly, Lilly Potter yes? I’ve seen you around a bit here and there.” He thought for a moment, absentmindedly petting the almost neon colored fuzzy ball, not even noticing that it had started to make little purring noises. ”Mostly in class though,” he added a bit awkwardly at the end.

“My uncles bred them when they started this shop. I bet your cousin would really like them.” She gave him a smile. “And I'm not just saying that so my family will get your business.” Lily added that part with a laugh. She probably could have been a sales person for this store. Maybe if the Quidditch thing didn't work out, this could be a back up plan. In all fairness though, Quidditch wasn't the only thing she'd been thinking about doing after Hogwarts. The problem was that Lily still didn't know what she wanted to do with her life. Her grades weren't near good enough to be an Auror, so she'd just randomly decided on Quidditch, at least for the time being. She was really quite good at the sport, but who was she kidding? She'd been born into the game. Her mum was a pro and her father had been the youngest seeker in his day. It was just in her blood.
Lily smiled again. “Well I guess it's a good thing I hardly ever call anyone by their full name.” She smirked and looked at the little pigmy puffs, wondering if she could hide one in her room during the summer. Just one more year and she would be an adult. Two and she could move out and her parents wouldn't be able to tell her what to have in her room. She did suppose that a cat was enough of a pet. Lily did love her little ball of fur. It was such a purr machine sometimes.
She refrained from making a face when he said he knew she was Lily Potter. Instead she just nodded. Everyone knew who she was. It was sort of an inconvenience sometimes. Then again, there were some times when being known really paid off. But overall it was just a little annoying. Her smirk came back when he mentioned he mostly saw her in class. “Oh, am I sleeping? Some of those classes are really dull.” She was only making a joke. Lily didn't sleep in class... often. Usually if she thought the class was going to be boring or hard to stay awake through she just skipped, which probably wasn't very good. “I'm out a lot I guess. If my parents knew who I partied with they would probably say I was with the wrong sort of crowd. But I figure I'm only going to be a teenager once. Might as well live it up.”

A smile crossed his face and he turned to put the blue one back and look over the colors again, half trying to decide which Amelia would like, but also trying to decide if he and the Potter girl were politely dancing around each other, or if they were being sincere. It kind of bugged Ezio sometimes that he felt he was being sincere only to figure out later after some thinking that was simply going through the motions of being friendly. He felt it was one of his major character defects, having trouble telling when he was being himself, or the shell he usually showed the world. Ezio could tell that his smile and chuckle when Lily jokingly said she didn’t call anyone by their entire name were both real.
”Well that’s good to know because I remember my nannies taking five minutes to call me in once for dinner.”[/]b Alright, it was true, when it came to witty banter Ezio was not the best, but he tried. Ezio shrugged, making a face as well. ”Well when you showed up you seemed quite awake. And now I sound like a stalker don’t I?” He looked back at Lily rubbing the back of his head. He dropped his hand when she started speaking again about the people she tended to party with.
”And my father would kill me if he knew I was talking civil to you, ya know the whole your dad defeated the dark lord and my dad having been a death eater and still a purist and such.” Ezio’s eyes darted back to the Pygmy Puffs, picking up a lemon yellow one gently. He reached to it but suddenly pulled his hand back shaking it and then sucking on his finger. ”Ow.” The last one that had bit him had been yellow as well.

“I think at that point I would have just picked you up and brought you inside. Could they not remember your name or just not say it right?” Lily kept looking at the little balls of fluff, wondering why she shouldn't get one. Really, they couldn't be that difficult to take care of. They caught their own spiders and stuff, which she was sure her Uncle Ron would have liked (or probably did like about her mother's, when he was alive anyway). Thinking about her uncle made her a little sad. She had lost one before she even knew him, the co-owner of this very shop, and another just very recently. She still had more relatives than any girl could ever really want to have, but she loved all of them too, even if she didn't always show it, and she had really liked her Uncle Ron. But she kept her face as a mask. She wasn't about to tell anyone how she was feeling about her uncle's death. Besides, she knew her cousins were feeling it even more than she was, so what gave her the right to go on blabbing about it?
She gave a light shrug. “I usually do show up to class at least semi-awake. And I try not to sleep through them, but some of them are just so difficult to stay awake through. And to be honest I skip a lot of class sometimes if I don't think I'll be able to stay awake.” Her eyebrows pulled together a little. “Honestly, I don't know why I was chosen as a prefect last year. I'm really not that great of a student.” She laughed again, glad that she had run into someone. Even if it was someone she didn't normally have a lot of interaction with.
Lily felt her shoulders move up and down in another shrug. She couldn't care less who the blood purists were. In fact, she actually partied with a lot of them, even though she didn't share the same values. “I think my dad is mostly over that. I mean, everything has been pretty quiet for the most part now, and I don't think he even hates Mr. Malfoy as much as he used to.” She hadn't overlooked the polite, even if they were sort of detached, nods that the two shared. She could only assume that they were moving passed everything. That was a good sign, right? She heard Ezio get hurt again and laughed. “Okay, maybe they really don't like you.”

Ezio couldn’t stop the blush that came to his cheeks as she said she would have simply picked him up because his mind had forgotten what she was commenting on, on purpose it seemed. He suddenly forced out a chuckle to cover what his head had decided to make up for him.
”Actually it’s because it’s so long. It was suppose to be a joke. I guess I didn’t do very well with that, sorry,” he said with a shy like grin. What the hell was wrong with him? He was usually a lot more reserved, and tended on the quite side with no joke making. The entire time she spoke about classes and skipping them sometimes, he fought with himself about making a comment. In the end the concerned part of him won out over reserved part of him.
”You really shouldn’t skip classes. I know it’s none of my business, but I hate seeing people skip because they thinks it’s boring. You come to me if you need help in any subjects. I’d be happy to help you out, maybe make some of those classes more interesting?” He had finished his thought, but the way he suddenly stopped talking made it seem like he might have something more to say, but he was suddenly feeling quite awkward.
He of course knew about her Uncle, knowing who she was it was hard not to know. He felt for the family, but that was something that would stay hidden behind his Occlumancy shield. To his father, most likely most Slytherins, he had to seem to either no care, or perhaps even be pleased, even slightly about the man’s death. But he hated the way his father thought, even if he himself had every reason to think the same way considering what had happened to his brother after the woman he had been going to marry before she had run off with a muggle banker. He was brought back to what Lily was saying when she started talking. His gaze returned to her face.
”That’s nice. And it’s not really funny. It hurts, and it seems to only the yellows bite, but I know Amelia would like this color the best.” He stroked the thing, skillfully avoiding its face this time, even if it was really hard to tell where its face was.

The red-haired girl nodded. “I suppose you didn't get the one I was making, too, then. Since I would assume that if people had been working for your family they would have been able to call you in properly.” She gave a smile and started looking at the shelves. Pygmy Puffs were nice but she wasn't going to be able to get one. She knew her brothers or her parents would find out and it just wasn't worth the trouble. Besides, if she didn't get one it would be one less thing to worry about. Even if it would be just one small thing. Her Uncle George probably wouldn't say anything to her parents about it, but she didn't think her luck would hold out with everyone. And where would she put it when she came home for the holidays? She couldn't very well just shove it in a bag; it would need to breathe. It was best if she just didn't get one. Maybe next year, or after she was out of Hogwarts even.
What Lily wanted to say was that Ezio was right, it was none of his business. But she was sure her parents would make their way here eventually and the last thing she needed was someone tattling on her that she was rude and skipping classes. So instead she gave a shrug. She didn't know what he was getting at with the helping to make the subjects interesting part because they were just dull. Unless he was flirting. Lily was usually a very big flirt, but she had come in here with a purpose – to get things used for pranking – and she didn't feel exactly in a flirty mood. Besides, there was no way to get flirting into homework. Homework wasn't sexy and flirting around homework was just distracting. The two were obviously not meant to coincide. That was unfortunate. “The subjects are just dull. My father could teach me more in a month than these teachers could teach me in a year. And that's not their fault really. It's just that my dad has had a lot of experience in this area and I'm always wondering why he didn't just home school the three of us.” Then again, that would mean a lot less people to interact with, so maybe that thought was just not a good one to have.
Lily had no idea where this conversation was going anymore. At first she was just excited to have some sort of interaction, but now she found herself wondering if she should have bothered the poor guy. Obviously he was having an inner debate with himself about what color animal to get. She shouldn't have interrupted him. She focused on a selection of quills that came with disappearing ink. That might be fun. If someone had to write lines for detention, she could easily switch out an ink bottle and keep them going for hours. “Did you only come in for the animals?” She asked.
